ADRIAN, Mich. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team secured their first victory over Adrian College defeated them 242.235 to 233.770. The total score is a new record for the program, just edging out the past record which was set last season.
The success began in the compulsory event when the Thunder immediately posted a new best for the event, taking the event by the score of 32.9 to 32.55. The team built the new best score with heat bests in acro (7.95) and pyramid (9.75) outscoring the Bulldogs in both.
Trine continued with another record, posting a new high in the acro event and outscoring the home team 26.80 to 24.25. The team tied their program best in the first heat with 9.15 and then set a new best in the third heat with 9.35.
The Thunder won their third straight event in the pyramid portion of the day, outscoring the Bulldogs 28.1 to 27.65. They set another program record with a 9.25 in the second heat, while finishing the event with three above-nine scores. The team took an 87.80 to 84.45 lead into halftime.
Following the intermission, Trine posted another solid performance in the toss event. They outscored the home team in each heat with an event-high score of 8.5 in the first heat. All told they won 24.3 to 23.25.
The Thunder came up with another program best in the tumbling event posting a score of 45.425, improving on an old best by over a full point and outscoring the Bulldogs by 1.425. The team posted new a new best in the trio pass with 8.15 and just missed out on doing so in the quad pass with 8.40.
Trine solidified the victory with 84.71 points in the team event, outscoring the opposition by over two points. It was the third best team event score in program history.
The Thunder improve to 1-1 following the victory. They will continue their season when they host Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday, March 11.
