ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University acrobatics and tumbling team came up short of visiting Glenville State University by the score of 261.425 to 229.755.
Despite posting the third best finish in the Compulsory Event in program history, the Division II talent of the Pioneers gave them a 38.00 to 34.05 lead. The Thunder turned in the best ever performance in the toss heat with a 9.55 and top-five performances in the pyramid (9.65) and acro (8.80) heats.
The rest of the first half of the meet was a struggle for Trine with Glenville pulling away in both the Acro and Pyramid Events. In the Acro Event the opposition scored 26.95 points to the Thunder's 13.10. Then in the Pyramid Event Trine did better, scoring solid scores in the first heat with a 9.15 and the third heat with a 9.70. Ultimately, they still fell in the event 29.70 to 25.60.
Out of the intermission Trine improved even more, they turned in their best performance in the Toss Event posting a score of 26.40. They had the second best showing in the 450 Salto heat with an 8.95 and then program bests in the Synchronized (8.65) and Open (8.80) heats.
They followed up with their second best showing in the Tumbling Event with a 47.175. That included a tie for first in program history in the aerial heat with an 8.775. They had top-five scores in the 6 element and open passes.
They finished the day with their best team event showing of the season, posting a score of 83.43. The jump in scores wasn't enough to win the contest as they fell by just over 30 points.
The loss is the first of the season for Trine, as they fall to 2-1. They will continue their season when they host a tri-match on Saturday, March 16. Both Adrian College and Notre Dame College will come to town for the 4 p.m. contest.
