SOUTH BEND, IND. -- Trine University sophomore Grant McKay (Las Vegas, Nev. / Coronado) advances to the second stage of U.S Open qualifying by finishing second at a local qualifier on Monday.
McKay finished with a four under par score of 67 to come in a tie for second place at the event hosted by the South Bend Country Club.
Over the course of the 2017-18 season, McKay averaged a team-low 73.6 strokes and was named to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) all-conference second team during the fall.
By finishing in the top four at the tournament McKay qualifies to travel to a sectional qualifier where he will compete for a spot at the 118th U.S. Open. The next round of qualifying golf will take place on Monday, June 4 and will be hosted by both the Lake Merced Golf Club and The Olympic Club in Daly City, Calif.
