FREELAND, Mich. -- The Trine University women's soccer team has been selected to finish seventh in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) by association coaches in this year's preseason poll.
The Thunder received votes totaling 15 points to finish in the seventh spot in the poll. The point totals are determined by votes cast by the league's coaches, who cannot vote for their own team. Adrian College received 49 points and seven first-place votes to take the top spot in the poll. Hope College came in at second with 40 points and the last first-place vote.
Trine's position in the poll reflects exactly the team's seventh-place finish from 2019. The team finished with a 4-8-3 overall record and a 1-5-2 record in MIAA play.
So far this season the team has just one blemish on their record sitting at 7-1 overall as they head into the conference season this spring.
This season, Freshman Taylor Noll (Anna, Ohio / Anna) leads the way in two offensive categories; points with 17 and assists with five. Junior Mia Schlueter (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carrol) leads the team with seven goals to her name. Overall the Thunder boasts a balanced offensive attack with eleven players recording a goal this fall.
In goal, sophomore Carmen Swieigard (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon) received the majority of the minutes and lived up to the attempts. She finished the fall with a .895 save percentage, a .39 goals-against average and 17 saves.
The team will open the MIAA season by hosting Olivet College on Tuesday, March 23. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
