KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Trine University women's soccer team stumbled against their hosts from Kalamazoo College, dropping the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest by the score of 2-0.
Neither team found the back of the net in first half, but the Hornets did seem to have a bit more success in the offensive zone. The home team outshot the Thunder both overall and on goal, but only by the slight margin of 4-1 and 2-1.
Trine's lone shot came near the end of the period when sophomore Abby Robison found herself with a lane for the first time of the night. She forced a save from the opposition's keeper, the first action of the evening.
The Thunder found early success in the second half with Bella Mabry firing a shot just high and the team earning a corner kick in the first five minutes of action. The momentum swung back to Kalamazoo after that with the Hornets recording two shots on goal. It looked like it might swing back to Trine when Mabry put a shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but Kalamazoo followed up with their first goal of the night instead taking the 1-0 lead.
Two more quick shots followed the kickoff with the Hornets doubling down with a second goal to build a 2-0 lead. From then on, they played possession-oriented soccer keeping the ball away from the Thunder and securing the victory.
Trine falls to 5-5-4 overall and 1-3 in MIAA play following the loss. They will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 14 when they host Calvin University for a 7 p.m. contest. That match is set to be played on Shive Field in Zollner Stadium.
