GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.-- The Trine men's tennis team dropped a tightly-contested match Calvin, 5-4 in MIAA-action Saturday afternoon.
Caleb Knust (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Brian Zehner (Logansport, Ind./Logansport) and Spenser Gilbert (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial) picked up singles victories for the Thunder. Zehner was able to gut out a three-set victory in the no. 3 flight. The freshman is 6-1 in matches in the no. 3 court this season. Knust and Gilbert each won in straight sets. Knust improved to 11-3 on the season, while Gilbert improved to 6-2.
Gilbert and Zehner also teamed up for the no. 3 doubles victory. The duo earned an 8-2 victory. The Gilbert/Zehner pairing has gone 11-3 on the season, including 3-1 in conference matches.
Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) also provided a tough test for his opponent, but fell in three sets.
Trine is now 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA. Calvin is now 7-7 overall, 3-1 in conference matches.
The Thunder travel to Alma this Tuesday, April 21 for a 4 p.m. match.
