ANGOLA, Ind. – Brent Cox of the Trine University men's basketball team has been named All-Region by D3hoops.com. Cox has been tabbed Third Team All-Region 7 behind the team's NCAA DIII program record 22 wins in 2022-23 and second-place finish in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings.
The senior forward from Kendallville, Indiana led the Thunder in scoring at 17.1 points per game. The First Team All-MIAA selection was ranked fourth in the conference in scoring this season. He started in all 26 games and averaged 29.7 minutes per game. He shot 44.8% from the field, 30.8% from three and 72.4% from the free throw line. Ball control statistics saw Cox bring down 4.7 rebounds per game, dish out 1.6 assists per game and take 1.3 steals per game.
He scored in double figures in 25 of 26 games overall and netted a career-high 26 points on Senior Day versus Adrian College. Cox had a pair of double-doubles, including a 24-point, 11-rebound game on opening night against Manchester University and went for 11 points and 10 rebounds against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. In the team's 67-64 victory at then-number three ranked University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, Cox tallied 23 points to lead the squad.
In his career, he has scored 1,089 points and secured 431 rebounds. His point total places him eighth in Trine's NCAA DIII era in scoring and his rebounding number is fifth. He became the 48th Thunder men's basketball player to cross the 1,000-point mark on February 4 against Alma College.
