ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team surrendered an early goal, before responding with 22 straight of their own as they handed Spalding University a 26-3 loss. Kramer Zastrow was unstoppable for the second day in a row, finishing with five goals and four assists.
After the Golden Eagles scored the first goal of the day with just over 12 minutes remaining in the first half, Zastrow scored his first two and was joined by Riley Fischer and Will Gonia to give the team a 4-1 lead at the first break.
The Thunder scored nine in the second period to build a 13-1 lead at the half. Zastrow only posted one goal in the period with Gonia leading the team with two. Aidan Kubiak, Justin Scheberle, Peter Piccillo, Charlie Anderson, J'Oshua Shaw and Fischer each put one up as part of the balanced team attack.
Seven more goals went on the board in the third period, building a lead of 20-1 for the start of the fourth. Each goal was scored by a different member of the team in the period. Getting their first of the game were Noah Markus, Patrick Doyle, Aiden Louks, Collin Custer and Jacob Louks. While Zastrow and Gonia each added another.
Spalding score two goals of their own in the final period, but the Thunder still added to their lead with six more goals. Again six different members of the team put the ball in the back of the net during the period. Jack Sarno became the final member of the team to get a goal in the game, while Zastrow, Anderson, Gonia, Theobald and Scheberle each added one more to their totals.
Nick DiPaolo got the win in net for the team, making a team high two saves. The Thunder combined for 20 out of 31 faceoff wins in the game with Jack Konicek leading the team with 13.
Trine improves to 5-5 overall following the victory. They will hit the road for their next game when they face Hanover College at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 29.
