HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Jack Konicek of the Trine University men's lacrosse team ha been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Specialist of the Week, after a pair of strong showings in the faceoff circle.
This is the second time this season that a Thunder student-athlete has been named an athlete of the week and the fourth time in his career for Konicek.
The Geneva, Ill. native went 31-for-49 in the faceoff circle last week, as Trine split their two MIAA contests. In the team's lopsided 30-4 victory over Alma College, Konicek finished 16-for-23 in the circle while also recording seven groundballs. Then on Saturday, the team fell to Albion College, but the senior kept the team in the game with his 15-for-26 performance. He also recorded seven more groundballs.
During the week Konicek became the Trine career leader in groundballs. He currently sits at 348 groundballs, six ahead the past leader.
The Thunder are currently 7-6 overall and 1-1 in MIAA play. They are scheduled to continue their season on Wednesday, April 17 when they host Calvin University for a 7 p.m. contest.
