GRANGER, Ind. -- The Trine men's tennis team defeated Bethel College 5-4 in a non-conference match Thursday afternoon.
After the two teams split singles play, the Thunder was able to clinch the victory with two wins in doubles matches. Victor Flynn (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South), Judson Quinn (Russiaville, Ind. / Western) and Colin Couch (Batavia, Ohio / Glen Este) each won in singles play and contributed to doubles wins as well. Trine evened its record at 2-2 with the victory, while the Pilots fell to 1-6.
Flynn defeated his foe 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play. The victory was his first of the season.
Quinn dominated his opponent, picking up a pair of 6-1 victories in the No. 4 singles court. The junior picked up his second win in a row and improved to 3-1 on the season.
Couch continued his hot start to the season with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Couch's victory in the No. 6 court improved his record to 3-1, matching Quinn for the team's best record in singles play.
Quinn and Flynn combined on a doubles victory, taking down Bethel's top pairing 8-6. Couch teamed up with Sam Luke (Indianapolis, Ind. / Bishop Chatard) to take home another 8-6 victory and help the Thunder clinch the match.
Trine wraps up its fall season Saturday, Sep. 17 when the Thunder host Ohio Northern. The match is scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
