HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Junior Alexis Michon has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week, after a week that saw her record the 16th no-hitter in program history.
Along with teammate Debbie Hill the Thunder swept this week's awards. The two represent the seventh and eighth MIAA honorees from the team this season. It is the second time that Michon has been named MIAA Pitcher of the Week in her career.
Michon saw her first action of the week against Hope College, entering both wins in relief as Trine secured a pair of close victories. In the first game she entered for the seventh inning with the two team's locked in a scoreless tie. The contest ended in the eighth with Michon earning the win after allowing just two hits while striking out four. Then in the second game she entered in the bottom of the sixth with one out and a runner on first. She would pitch the final one and two-thirds innings, allowing no hits and striking out two more on the way to her third save of the season.
The junior saved her best performance for Saturday. Michon took the circle for the first game of the day and finished the five-inning contest by allowing just three baserunners, coming on two walks and a hit-by-pitch. She struck out nine of the 18 batters she faced in the no-hitter, which is her first while wearing a Trine uniform.
Trine is set to finish the regular season when they travel to face Kalamazoo College on Friday, May 5. The team will secure the MIAA Championship outright with one win during the doubleheader which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
