HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – Freshman Debbie Hill has been named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Softball Pitcher of the Week after posting a pair of solid starts that led the Trine University to a MIAA Tournament Championship.
Along with teammate Anna Gill the Thunder swept this week's awards. The two represent the ninth and tenth MIAA honorees this season. It is the fourth tie that Hill has taken home one of the MIAA weekly awards, the second as a pitcher.
Hill made a pair of starts during the week and ended her 12 innings of work with an impressive 0.58 earned run average while striking out 15 batters and allowing just eight hits and two walks. She also added impressive numbers at the plate posting a .429 batting average, a .636 on-base percentage and a 1.429 slugging percentage.
She began the tournament against Adrian where she allowed just one earned run while striking out two. Hill then won the game for herself with a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth that gave the Thunder the 2-1 lead.
Then, on Friday, she took the circle again for the championship contest. She recorded six more innings of nearly flawless work, allowing just three hits and a walk while sitting down nine. She added another homer on offense as the team finished with a 7-1 victory.
The Thunder will host a four-team regional beginning on Thursday, May 18. They start the three-day event with a contest against Waynesburg University at 4:30 p.m.
