FREELAND, Mich. – Trine University women's basketball player Tara Bieniewicz [Chesterfield, Mich. / Dakota] has been tabbed as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athlete of the Week. It is the second time in 2021-22 and third time in her career Bieniewicz has won Athlete of the Week from the conference.
The senior guard was the team's leading scorer with 18 points in both road wins this week. Trine defeated #1 Hope College 70-62 last Wednesday to snap the Flying Dutch's 61-game winning streak and completed the sweep of Olivet College 76-33 on Saturday.
Bieniewicz knocked down four three-point field goals, pulled down three rebounds, dished out three assists and a pair of blocks and steals in the victory at Hope. She would turn around Saturday and connect on four more shots from long range versus the Comets and added two rebounds, assists and steals in that one.
Bieniewicz is the MIAA's top shooting threat this year with a league-high 46 made three's and a shooting percentage of 42.2%. She is leading the Thunder with 11.6 points per game in 2021-22.
Tonight, the Trine women's basketball team faces Kalamazoo College at home. Tip-off in MTI Center is scheduled for 7 pm.
