INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Following the Trine University women's basketball team clinching their first Sectional Championship in program history, the Thunder are moving on to the NCAA Championship Semifinal Round on Thursday, March 17.
Trine will take on Hope College at 7:30 pm in the semifinals at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse on the campus of Duquesne University. The Thunder (28-3) defeated the previously unbeaten Transylvania University 54-47 to advance to the Championship Semifinals. On their home floor, the Flying Dutch (30-1) upended New York University 83-64 after being up just one point at halftime to continue on in the 2021-22 season. The semifinal game will be livestreamed on the NCAA Championship site.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and Amherst College will compete at 5 pm in the other semifinal game prior to the Trine versus Hope game. The two winning teams will meet for the NCAA DIII National Championship on Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm. The Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks (27-4) edged UW-Oshkosh in their Sectional Championship game 68-62, while the Amherst Mammoths (25-3) topped Trinity University 79-68 to move on in the NCAA DIII Women's Basketball Tournament.
