ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's basketball team has risen to the number 11 spot in the week six D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Thunder have appeared in all six Top 25 polls this season.
The team picked up a victory in their only game of the week on Saturday versus Saint Mary's College. The 88-52 win makes the Trine women 11-3 overall and they sit atop the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) standings with a 5-0 record.
A scoring run of 27 straight points spanning the first and second quarters for the Thunder allowed them to stroll to a sizable victory over the Belles. Trine took advantage of 28 Saint Mary's turnovers, the most in a game by an opponent this season, by scoring 33 points off the miscues. The Thunder had three double-digit scorers: Katie Tate (21 points), Makayla Ardis (17 points) and Sidney Wagner (17 points).
Trine connected on a season-high 13 made three-point field goals in the win and shot 43.3% from deep. Saturday's win also marked back-to-back games with more than 20 assists and more than 10 steals. Ardis dished out a career-best seven dimes and Tate was responsible for three assists. The Thunder took the ball away 17 times against Saint Mary's, a season-high, including multiple steals from Ardis, Katie Sloneker, Alyssa Argyle, Addison Hutson and Abby Sanner.
This week, Trine is away for two MIAA matchups. On Wednesday, January 11, the team travels to Alma College to take on the Scots at 5:30 p.m. Following that, they venture to Kalamazoo College on Saturday, January 14 beginning at 1 p.m.
