ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's basketball team dropped one position to number 12 in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. The Thunder lost a midweek game to now number six Hope College, but got back in the win column at Olivet College on Saturday, January 28. In the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, Trine sits 13th in the nation.
Senior guard Makayla Ardis poured in a career-high 29 points in the team's 83-69 loss at the hands of the Flying Dutch. She was 9-of-16 from the field, 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and a perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Freshman forward Abby Sanner led the way in the 71-39 triumph over Olivet College with her first career double-double. Sanner netted 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to get Trine to 15-4.
After limited playing time early in the season, freshman guard Jada Rhonehouse has gotten into seven consecutive games. Rhonehouse has shown aggressiveness and received opportunities at the charity stripe in three of the last four contests. Classmate Jordan Walters has also been consistent off the bench in the same timeframe. She played a career-high 17 minutes in the win at Kalamazoo College with two points, two rebounds and two assists.
Trine hits the road on Wednesday, February 1 at Albion College beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Thunder won the previous matchup this season, 68-41. Sophomore Sidney Wagner scored a team-high 19 points and contributed six rebounds and four assists as well.
