HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has announced the All-MIAA honorees for the 2023 women's lacrosse season. The Thunder had two representatives on the All-MIAA teams, Calista Richmond as a First Team All-MIAA attack and Maddy Kasten as a Second Team All-MIAA goalkeeper.
Richmond, a sophomore from Portage, Michigan, made it back-to-back seasons as a First Team All-MIAA recipient after garnering that title last season as well as MIAA Rookie of the Year. Richmond built upon a record-breaking 2022 by extending her career numbers this year.
In 12 games, Richmond totaled 24 goals and 26 assists for an even 50 points. Her assist numbers leads the league for the second consecutive season and her 50 points is the highest on the team. Richmond is currently fifth on the program's career points list at 131 and has already secured the Trine women's lacrosse school record for most career assists at 76.
She had the highest shot-on-goal percentage in 2023 for the Thunder at 88.9% (40 shots-on-goal in 45 shot attempts). She converted 5-of-12 free position attempts and picked up 13 groundballs, secured six draw controls and caused eight turnovers. Richmond tallied a season-high eight points in consecutive wins coming against Kalamazoo College and Adrian College.
Kasten, a sophomore from Battle Creek, Michigan, was in net for all 12 games for Trine this season, including over 719 minutes played. 2023 is the first time Kasten has been named an All-MIAA student-athlete and she is the first goalkeeper since Grace Garrett is 2014 to receive an All-MIAA award.
She made a total of 127 saves this season and held a 46.5% save percentage. Both of those values are good for third in the conference. Her 46 groundballs were tied for ninth in the MIAA and led the team. Kasten had a record of 5-7 in net.
Kasten set a new career-high with 19 saves against the College of Wooster and was able to end the season with three straight games with double-digit saves. She had 10 or more saves in five of the seven conference games played.
