FREELAND, MICH. -- Senior Neil Orr (Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic) and junior Joseph Steigmeyer (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) have been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Offensive and Defensive "Players of the Week."
Orr was named offensive "Player of the Week" after scoring a game and career-high five goals in Trine's 10-6 win against Milwaukee School of Engineering this past weekend in the team's only action of the week. Orr also tallied a pair of assists to finish the game with seven total points. He scored his five goals on nine total shots, eight of which were on net, for a 55.6 shot percentage. In addition, Orr recorded two ground balls in the win.
Overall for the season, Orr is second on the team in scoring with 23 total points with a team-high 18 goals to go along with five assists. He has taken 46 shots, which are the second most on the team, for a 39.1 shot percentage. Five of his goals scored this season have come on man-advantage opportunities. He has also tallied nine ground balls.
Steigmeyer was tabbed as the defensive 'Player of the Week" after another strong effort at goalkeeper for the Thunder this past week. Against the Raiders, Steigmeyer made 15 saves in 60 minutes. He faced 29 total shots, 21 shots on goal, and had a 71.4 save percentage. Steigmeyer also had two ground balls in the win.
Through six games, Steigmeyer has posted a 5-1 record and allows 6.40 goals per game. He has made 51 saves in 300 minutes of playing time and has a 61.4 save percentage. His 32 goals against this season currently rank as the fewest give up in the MIAA. He also leads the conference in goals against average (6.40) and win percentage (83.3). Steigmeyer is also second in save percentage (61.4) and tied for second in wins (five).
Trine will host Hope (Mich.) College in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener on Saturday, Apr. 6 at Fred Zollner Athletic Stadium. The two teams are set to square off at 1 p.m.
