Orr and Keptner Earn All-MIAA Honors

Orr and Keptner Earn All-MIAA Honors

FREELAND, MICH.  --  Senior Neil Orr (Lombard, Ill./Montini Catholic) and sophomore Dave Keptner (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) have been selected to the 2019 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Teams for their individual efforts this past season.

Orr was selected second-team following a season that saw him finish second on the team in overall scoring with 37 points (29 goals and eight assists).  His 29 goals led the team, and also ranked as the 10th highest in the conference, including a team-best six man-advantage goals.  He recorded multi-goal games in all but two contests this season that included a career-best five goal effort in a win against Milwaukee School of Engineering in March.  Orr also tallied two assists in that game to finish with a career-high seven total points.

Orr took a total of 92 shots for the season to rank second on the team and had a .315 shot percentage.  In addition, Orr had 16 ground balls and caused one turnover defensively.

For his career, Orr has accumulated 88 goals and 26 assists for 114 points in 55 games.  He scored 14 of his 88 goals on "man-up" opportunities and his one "man-down" goal this season was his first of his career.  He tallied 316 shots and finished with a .278 lifetime shot percentage.  His 114 total points, put him seventh on the program's all-time scoring list and his 88 goals are the fifth most ever recorded.

This season's All-Conference award marks the second for Orr in his career who earned first-team recognition last season.

After being named the MIAA "Rookie of the Year" as a freshman in 2018, Keptner was recognized as a first-team All-MIAA selection this season.  On defense, Keptner led the team in both caused turnovers (17) and ground balls (67).  His 17 ground balls put him in a tie for 10th in the conference and his 67 ground balls were the fourth most.

Keptner was part of a defense that ranked third in the league in fewest goals allowed per game at 9.67.

On the offensive side of the ball, Keptner finished with a point on the season with one assist.  He also took one shot in 12 games.

As a team, the Thunder posted a 7-5 overall record and finished fifth in the conference.  Trine scored a total of 143 goals and added 90 assists for 233 points.  Trine's 40 assists were the fourth most in a single season and its 143 goals and 233 points both ranked as the sixth highest.  The team also ranked in the top-10 all-time in a single season in several other categories including: points per game (19.42 - 3rd), goals per game (11.92 - 3rd), assists per game (7.50 - 2nd), ground balls per game (34.58) and and set single season marks in shots per game (43.00) and shots on goal per game (24.75).  Additionally, the Thunder tied the single-season record for most "man-down" goals with three and their 17 man-advantage scores were the fifth most.
