ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's lacrosse team has announced their slate for the 2023 campaign.
The Thunder boast 17 contests as they enter the season, with an impressive 12 set to be played at home in Zollner Stadium. The team begins the season with two of those home games, first hosting Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday, February 22 followed a week later by Heidelberg. Last season Trine opened against the Student Princes, picking up 13-1 victory on the road.
The team's first road game comes against Spalding University, who are in their first season of sponsoring lacrosse. The Thunder return for the longest of their home stands, hosting four straight games over seven days. The stretch begins with DePauw on Saturday, March 11, last season Trine came up with a close win over the Tigers by the score of 7-5.
Three new faces arrive in Angola next with Concordia Chicago on March 12, Cornell College on March 15 and Carroll (Wis.) on March 18. The team faces their second road contest heading for a rematch with Ohio Northern on Wednesday, March 22. Last season the Polar Bears got the best of the Thunder by the score of 13-3.
Trine finishes off the non-conference portion of their season with a three-game home stand. They host Thomas More, who is in the process of transitioning to NCAA Division II, on Saturday, March 25. The team then hosts two more Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) foes, first Earlham then Hanover, joining Spalding and Mt. St. Joe from earlier in the season. The Panthers were selected to finish third in the conference by the recent preseason poll, with the other three sitting as the bottom three.
The Thunder enter the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) portion of their season by traveling to face Alma on April 8. All told they will face three of their six conference opponents on the road including Hope on April 15 and Adrian on April 26. The rest, including Calvin, Albion, Kalamazoo, will be home contests.
