ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team was in action for the first time in 2023 on Saturday afternoon in the Sean Brady Alumni Invitational. This is the first of three events taking place at home inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC).
Beginning with jump events, Greysen Spohn was first in the high jump at 1.95 meters (6' 4.75"). Ben Williams had a runner-up finish in the long jump at 6.81 meters (22' 4.00") and also led the team in the 60-meter run (7.17 seconds). In the triple jump, Ethan Spahr placed seventh overall at 12.93 meters (42' 5.00").
Theodore Samra was the highest-scoring Thunder student-athlete in both the weight throw (17.77 meters / 58' 3.75") and the shot put (15.07 meters / 49' 5.50"). He was second in the weight throw and third in the shot put. Nathan Leap was a sixth-place finisher in the pole vault with a height of 4.05 meters (13' 3.50").
In the 3000-meter run, Holden Martin and Joseph Packard were 1-2 out of collegiate competitors with times of 9:02.47 and 9:02.57, a photo finish. Jake Gladieux secured a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter run at 52.00 seconds. Philip Nemechek ran the 600-meter run and scored a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:27.95. Joshua Maier led the team in the mile run at 4:35.43, good for 10th spot overall.
The Thunder hit the road for their next event on Saturday, January 21, the Mastodon Invitational at Purdue Fort Wayne.
