SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Trine University men's and women's track and field programs kicked off the 2023-24 indoor season at the Blue Gold Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday afternoon with middle distance competitors in action.
Three student-athletes participated in the mile run. Junior Lydia Randolph represented the Thunder women with a third-place finish of 5:18.80. The men's team saw sophomores Lucas Tutrow and Matt Hoop take to the track. Tutrow was seventh overall with a time of 4:43.03 and Hoop set a new personal best at 4:44.36, good for eighth in the event.
Junior Philip Nemechek ran in the 800-meter run for the Thunder and placed sixth at 2:00.91. The final man in action for Trine was sophomore Tyler Hartleroad. Hartleroad competed in the 3000-meter run and completed the race with a time of 8:40.99, just one second off the school record.
Next week, the Thunder compete in their final event before Christmas break, the Strive for Greatness Invitational at Indiana Tech on Friday, December 8.
