WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Trine University men's track and field team competed in a variety of events in Friday's Lancer Invitational at Grace College. Team scores were not recorded at the event.
In the only track event that the Thunder competed in, Eli Shoup and Matt Hoop were the top-two finishers in the 3000-meter steeplechase at 10:31.54 and 10:38.39.
Trine had five team members inside the top-8 in the discus event, led by Brandan Cross with a third-place score of 40.54 meters (133' 0.00'). The other top finishers included Andrew Henderson in fourth (40.45 meters (132' 8.00"), Colten Zableckis in sixth (35.72 meters / 117' 2.00"), Kimball Hughes in seventh (35.13 meters / 115' 3.00") and Chase Lewis in eighth (35.12 meters / 115' 3.00").
The Thunder also had four of the top-6 spots in the shot put. Alexander Lewis was runner-up individually with a throw of 14.86 meters (48' 9.00"). Theodore Samra (14.47 meters / 47' 5.75"), Hughes (14.04 meters / 46' 0.75") and Noah Chew (14.03 meters / 46' 0.50") were third, fifth and sixth overall.
A pair of second-place spots were achieved by Samra in the hammer throw (52.59 meters / 172' 6.00") and Colton Wampler in the javelin (44.16 meters / 144' 10.00"). Jacob Barkey (49.68 meters / 163' 0.00") and Dillon Dennison (45.46 meters / 149' 2.00") were inside the top-5 in the hammer throw as well.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Championships take place next week on Thursday, May 4 and Friday, May 5.
