HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) announced freshman Morgan Johnson of the Trine University men's track and field team as MIAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week.
Johnson, a Warsaw, Indiana native, locked up his first career Athlete of the Week award thanks to personal best scores in both the pole vault and shot put at the Hillsdale Tune-Up. The team was able to score a second-place finish after Johnson scored for the team in the pole vault.
Johnson was third overall in the pole vault at 4.31 meters (14' 1.75"). His new career-high mark is the second-best score in the MIAA this season. Along with his score in the pole vault, he also had a new best throw in the shot put at 10.66 meters (34' 11.75"), good for 16th at the event.
Up next for the Thunder is the MIAA Indoor Championships on Saturday, February 24 at home inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC). Events begin at 11 a.m. The men are looking for their fifth indoor title in a row and eighth straight total championship.
