SHELTON, Conn. – The Trine University women's hockey team took advantage of four power-play goals to pick up their second victory of the season, defeating Post University by the score of 6-4.
Unlike last night the Eagles struck first in the contest, scoring just over a minute into the first period.
The Thunder responded six minutes later with their first power-play goal of the contest. Junior Eryn Isaacson (Fenton, Mich.) tallied the goal her first of the season, with sophomores Devin Dzumaryk (Milford, Mich.) and Brandi Wilson (Fenton, Mich.) adding assists.
Trine would then take their first lead of the contest in the 14th minute of the contest. This time sophomore Natasha Strbiak (Renton, Wash.) came up with the power-play goal with sophomore Theresa DiMaggio (Shelby Township, Mich.) and junior Emily Moore (London, Ontario) adding assists.
The lead was a short-lived one with Post scoring the next two goals of the contest to take back the lead at 3-2.
The Thunder mounted a response of their own in the final moments of the first period scoring their third power-play goal with just 45 seconds remaining. Dzumaryk came up with the goal with juniors Olivia Coyne () and Kailey Cameron (Nowthen, Minn.) adding assists. The two teams would enter the first intermission tied at 3-3.
In the second the Eagles found the back of the net first with their own power-play goal in the fifth minute of the period. The goal gave them a 4-3 lead, which would end up being their last of the contest.
Trine scored their last power-play goal of the contest in the tenth minute to bring the game back to even at 4-4. Moore tallied the goal with Isaacson and junior Sierra Westner (Saginaw, Mich.) adding assists.
Trine then took the lead for the final time with a goal from freshman Grace Canty (West Bloomfield, Mich.) in the 12th minute of the period. The team took the 5-4 lead into the second intermission.
They remained at a one-goal lead into the final moment of the third period when Isaacson iced the contest with her second goal of the contest giving Trine the 6-4 victory.
In goal senior Molly Scarborough (Ramsey, Minn.) picks up her second victory of the season. She finished the contest with 32 saves.
The Thunder improve to 2-0 following the win. They will next take the ice when they travel to face Concordia University Wisconsin on Friday, Nov. 15. The contest will start the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) season for Trine. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST.
