WEST SENECA, N.Y. – The Trine University women's hockey team shattered program single-game records in a 13-0 victory over Hilbert College. The team's 13 goals, 15 assists and 28 points are all new single-game highs for the young program.
Two members of the team finished with more than six points in the contest. Sophomore Payton Hans finished the contest with seven points including three goals and four assists. She becomes just the fourth skater in program history to record a hat trick while her four assists and seven points become the new single-game benchmark for team. Junior Grace Hicks finished the game with two goals and four assists, tying Hans for the new assist record and coming in second in points.
Hicks scored the first goal of the game at just the 41 second mark and the team never looked back. Hans scored two more goals in the first period to build a 3-0 lead.
Five different skaters scored for Trine in the second to build their lead to 8-0. Goal scorers included senior Grace Canty, junior Taryn Raisanen, sophomores Kailey Mleko and Lea Connor and freshman Aleah Bienek.
The team added five more in the third to reach the final 13-0 score. Sophomore Ellie Warhoftig scored her first goal of the game, while Hicks, Mleko and Connor all recorded their second. Hans finished the game by capping her hat trick with an unassisted goal.
Senior Marie Dedert picked up her first win in net for the Thunder under limited strain. She finished the game with five saves.
The Thunder improve to 3-7-0 overall following the victory. They will face the Hawks again tomorrow, Sunday, December 11. The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
