ANGOLA, Ind. – The Trine University women's hockey team dropped their home and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opener to visiting Concordia University Wisconsin by the score of 3-0.
The night went against the Thunder from the start. The visiting Falcons outshot the home squad 9-2 in the first period. They took the lead in the 14th minute of play and never relinquished it.
Concordia Wisconsin scored their second goal on a power-play opportunity in the early minutes of the second period. In the second the two teams were even in shots both with nine.
Just under six minutes into the same period, the Thunder had what would be their best chance at a goal in the contest. Junior Madison Toor stole the puck from the opposition just outside the offensive zone. She quickly moved toward the net beyond the defenders and fired her shot to the right of the goalie, striking the pipe and deflecting away.
The Falcons scored the final goal of the contest in the 19th minute of play to finish the game with the 3-0 victory. It was the culmination of another strong period for the team, where they outshot Trine 14-5.
Senior Marie Dedert played the game in net for the team and finished with 29 saves while allowing the three goals.
The Thunder fall to 0-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in NCHA play following the loss. They will look to bounce back tomorrow, Saturday, November 12 in the second half of the weekend doubleheader against the Falcons. The game is set to start at 2 p.m.
