FREELAND, MICH. -- Trine University freshman men's soccer player Alhasan Yahya (Melvindale, Mich. / Melvindale) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association "Offensive Player of the Week" for his effort this past weekend in helping the Thunder defeat Alma (Mich.) College.
With the win, the Thunder improve to 5-1 overall this season and start 1-0 against conference opponents.
In its first game since October, Trine defeated the Scots, 5-0, in the MIAA opener at Zollner Stadium. Alhasan Yahya assisted on two of the team's five goals to end the contest with two points. For the season, he takes over the team lead in assists with three and has also scored a goal for a total of five points on the year. He is currently fourth overall in scoring.
Trine is scheduled to travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to take on Calvin (Mich.) College on Thursday, Mar. 25 in MIAA action. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.
