ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's soccer team were kept scoreless against Kalamazoo (Mich.) College, 2-0, in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Weaver Field.
Kalamazoo (4-0, 4-0 MIAA) scored a goal in both the first and second halves starting with a score at just under the 25-minute mark of the opening period.
Trine (6-4, 1-3 MIAA) took a total of four shots in the first 45 minutes, including a pair of attempts on net, but both shots ended in saves as the visitors maintained a one-goal edge at halftime, 1-0.
Nearing the midway point of the second half, the Hornets struck again for another score during the 71st minute and increased the margin to 2-0. The KZOO defense then held firm the rest of the way and kept the Thunder out of the net and gaining any momentum at a possible comeback.
The two goals scored by KZOO turned out to be all the Hornets needed and went on to claim the 2-0 shutout.
In net, freshman Troy Saylor (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) played the entire game for Trine and made five saves in seven shots faced.
The Thunder next compete against Adrian (Mich.) College on Thursday, Apr. 8 in Adrian, Mich. The MIAA matchup is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
