Trine Men's Soccer Has Five Earn All-MIAA Honors

Trine Men's Soccer Has Five Earn All-MIAA Honors

ANGOLA, IND.  --  Five members of the Trine University men's soccer team were recognized for their individual efforts this past season as All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association selections.

Sophomore Jared Cromwell (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northview) earned first-team honors, while freshman Tyler Murphy (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central), freshman Alhasan Yahya (Melvindale, Mich./Melvindale), junior Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) and senior Beau Hill (Allen, Texas/Allen) were all second-team selections.

Trine ended its season with an 11-5 record, its best since the 2018 campaign in which the Thunder posted a 13-3-2 mark.  The Thunder also advanced to the conference tournament championship game for the first time since joining the NCAA and the MIAA.

Cromwell and Hill helped anchor a defense that averaged 1.10 goals against per game which ranked second in the MIAA and fourth best all-time in Trine history.  The duo also helped lead the Thunder to eight shutout victories to tie for fourth all-time in program history.  Individually, Hill started all 16 games, while Cromwell started all 15 games he played in.  Addtionally, Cromwell recorded points on offense with a goal and an assist to finish tied for ninth on the team in total points with three.

Murphy ended a standout "rookie" season by leading Trine in scoring with 16 points thanks to a team-tying highs of six goals and four assists.  Three of his goals were game winners which led the team.  He took 25 shots with 17 shots on goal (.680 SOG percentage) and a .240 shot percentage.  Murphy finished in a tie for the MIAA lead in goals, assists and points.  He posted two multi-point games during the season with a goal and an assist in both a win against Grace Christian University in the season opener and a win against Olivet (Mich.) College in the second matchup of the season.  Murphy ended the year with a five-game point streak dating back to the matchup against Albion (Mich.) College on Apr. 13.

Yahya also had an impressive first season with the Thunder as the freshman started eight of 16 games and finished third overall on the team in points with 12 as the result of four goals, including a game-winner, and four assists.  Additionally, two of his goals came via penalty kick and was two-of-two overall for the year.  His four goals tied him for fourth on the team and his four assists tied him with Murphy to lead the squad, and the MIAA.  He took a total of 20 shots during the season for a .200 shot percentage.  Yahya had two multi-point games with a season high two assists against Alma (Mich.) College on Mar. 19 and then a goal and an assist performance against the Scots in the second matchup of the season on Apr. 16.

Morris caps his junior season with his first All-Conference selection after starting in all 16 games and finished fourth on the team in scoring with five goals.  Three of his goals were scored on penalty kicks, leading the team and was three-of-three overall.  His five goals were third most on the team and tied for third in the MIAA.  He tallied 17 shots on the year for a .294 shot percentage and scored goals in five separate games.
