ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University men's soccer team scored three goals against Olivet (Mich.) College in a 3-0 shutout of the Comets in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action at Weaver Field.
Trine (6-2, 1-1 MIAA) needed just three minutes to get on the scoreboard with the team's first goal that was scored by Alhasan Yahya (Melvindale, Mich./Melvindale) at the 3:06 minute mark. The lone score was the only point of the first half as the Thunder took their one-goal edge into the locker rooms.
Coming out of the locker rooms, Trine added to its lead with another goal during the 52nd minute when junior Brian Morris (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer) found the back of the net and made it a 2-0 game. The lead remained at a pair of goals until late in the game when freshman Tyler Murphy (Greenfield, Ind./Greenfield Central) tacked on a final insurance goal at the 83:09 mark.
The Trine defense kept Olivet (2-1, 1-1 MIAA) from scoring in the final minutes following the Murphy goal to keep the shut out with the Thunder winning, 3-0.
Freshman Troy Saylor (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) played the entire game in net for Trine and picked up the win after allowing no goals and had two saves in 90 minutes.
Trine is scheduled to travel to Holland, Mich. on Friday, Apr. 2 to take on Hope College in a MIAA matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
