DEFIANCE, Ohio - It was a dominating performance for the Trine University Track and Field teams at the Defiance College Open as they won a combined 10 events while setting six facility records and two new school records. Senior Courtney Stahl (Lowell, Ind./Lowell Senior) and junior Katie Wineman (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine) broke their own school records in the weight throw and pole vault.
The men’s team took home four top finishes led by sophomore Tyler Bourdo (Plainwell, Mich./Delton-Kellogg). In the 200m, Bourdo took gold with a facility record time of 22.58 while finishing fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.26. Bourdo also anchored the 4x400m relay team of freshman Luke Fimreite (McCordsville, Ind./Mount Vernon) and seniors Dan Linder (DeWitt, Mich./Grand Ledge) and Nate Konzen (Toledo, Ohio/Toledo Christian) who set a facility record in a time of 3:24.88. Konzen also took first in the 400m, finishing the race in a time of 51.91. In the 3,000m run, sophomore Michael Becker (Wauseon, Ohio/Wauseon) placed second with a time of 9:16.00.
In the field events, junior Lincoln Frey (Pettisville, Ohio/Pettisville) picked up a win for the Thunder in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.95m. Senior Dustin Stutzman (Topeka, Ind./Westview) took home a pair of third place finishes in the shot put and weight throw, with distances of 15.39m and 14.52m respectively.
The Thunder women dominated the running events as they took home gold in 6 of the 7 races in which they entered. The squad was led by senior Annalisa Krug (Battlecreek, Mich./Pennfield) who set three facility records on the night. Krug won the 800m and mile runs with times of 2:25.52 and 5:27.46 respectively. Krug then led things off for the 4x400m relay team of freshman Gabbie Bates (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia), senior Sannie Anderson (Hesperia, Mich./Hesperia) and sophomore Trisha King (Archbold, Ohio/Archbold) who took home the top spot in the event with a facility record time of 4:14.72, a full 7 seconds ahead of second place.
King also picked up a pair of wins on the night. King dominated the competition in the 600m run winning by over 6 seconds, as she set a facility record with a time of 1:40.52. In the 200m dash, King also won the event with a time of 27.49. Rounding out the wins for the Thunder in the running events was sophomore Kelly Scholer (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown), winning the 3,000m by 15 seconds with a time of 11:19.45.
In the field events, Stahl broke her school record in the weight throw for the second straight meet with a distance of 13.60m. Stahl also finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 10.81m. In the pole vault, Wineman broke her own school record which she set earlier this season, clearing a height of 2.91m.
The team will return to action on February 15 when they host the third Trine University Open of the season beginning at 4:00 p.m.
