MARSHALL, MICH. -- The Trine University women's golf team placed eighth at the annual Kyle Campbell Invitational hosted by Olivet (Mich.) College at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall, Mich.
Sophomore Jenna Doumont (Burlington, Ky./Villa Madonna Academy) led Trine individually and improved by 14 strokes in the final round to end the two-day tournament with a total of 168 strokes (91+77=168) and placed 18th overall. Freshman Maire Sullivan (Plymouth, Mich./Plymouth) was second on the team with rounds of 85 and 89 strokes for a total of 174 strokes.
Senior Mackenna Kelly (Angola, Ind./Angola) had the third lowest score for the Thunder at 176 strokes after carding a 91 in the first round and then fired an 85 on the final day. Freshman Lily Williamson (Colfax, Ind./Western Boone) finished with a total of 184 strokes (96+88=184) to finish fourth on the team.
Freshman Reagan Guthrie (Genoa, Ohio/Genoa Area) improved her score by 17 strokes in round two with a 93 and finished with an accumulative total of 203 strokes (110+93=203) for the tournament.
In addition, freshman Anabelle Burkholder (Lima, Ohio/Bath) competed as an individual and finished with a tournament total of 246 strokes (109+137=246).
As a team, Trine finished with 702 total strokes (363+339=702) to place eighth of 12 teams. St. Mary's (Ind.) College was the team champion with 639 strokes (322+317=639). DePauw University was second at 655 strokes (331+324=655) and host school Olivet rounded out the top three with 670 strokes (324+346=670).
Trine will next compete in the first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association event of the season next Saturday, Sept. 14 with the MIAA Jamboree #1 hosted by Alma (Mich.) College. The single-round event will be held at Pine River Country Club in Alma, Mich. beginning at 1 p.m.
