DULUTH, Minn. -- The Trine University men's hockey team swept this week's Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Player of the Week Honors. Freshman Bobby Price (Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.) earned the award for offensive players and senior Hunter Payment (Monroe, Mich.) took home the defensive honor.
The pair are the second and third Thunder student-athletes to take home the award this season. It is the first time either player has been named player of the week.
Trine finished the weekend with a split with nationally-ranked Aurora University, picking of their win of the weekend on Saturday by the score of 6-3. Both Price and Payment made a splash offensively in the contest.
Price became just the second player in team history to record a hat trick. He started the game with an assist before scoring three straight goals for the team, including the eventual game winner.
Payment also finished the game with four points with two goals and two assists. Both of his goals came from near the blueline as the defenseman fired with great accuracy from long distance.
The four points from both skaters is a new program record for a single game.
The Thunder will next take the ice when they travel to face Chatham University for a 2:30 p.m. contest on Sunday, January 2.
