MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Trine University men's hockey team overcame a stout defensive effort by their hosts from the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) to secure a 2-0 victory.
Neither team scored in the first period, but it wasn't from lack of effort by the Thunder. Trine outshot the Raiders 16-7 in that period, the only time a deficit favored either team in the category.
The offense finally cashed in during the opening minute of the second period. Jack Cooper scored the goal with Sam Antenucci adding an assist. The 1-0 lead would last until the second intermission and well into the third period.
Down a man due a penalty Antenucci caused a turnover that ended up on the stick of Michael DiPietra who was able to cash in with a second goal for Trine, building the lead to 2-0. It would be enough for the victory.
Kyle Kozma played in net of the Thunder and finished the game with a shutout victory. He recorded 30 saves in the contest.
Trine improves to 13-3-0 overall and 8-1-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) competition. They will look for the weekend sweep tomorrow, Saturday, January 13, when they faceoff with MSOE again. Opening puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT / 5 p.m. ET.
