EXCELSIOR, Minn. – The Trine University men's hockey team stayed put in this week's USCHO.com NCAA Division III coaches poll, coming in at 12th for the second week in a row.
The Thunder received votes totaling 83 points for the week to hold their spot. The team is just 11 points out of tenth and four out of 11th this week, with Trinity College (Conn.) and the College of St. Scholastica taking those two spots respectively. Adrian remains the only other member of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) to be ranked, jumping to second in this week's poll. St. Norbert continues to receive votes.
Trine picked up a series win, despite splitting with visiting Aurora University this past weekend. On Friday, Drew Welsch led a third period comeback bid, tying the game in the waning minutes to force overtime. The Spartans went on to score the game winner in the extra period and secure the win 4-3, with the Thunder earning one point toward NCHA standings with the result. On Saturday the team exploded for five goals in the third period to win 8-4 over Aurora, earning three more points to the standings.
The team is set to travel to face Concordia University Wisconsin this upcoming weekend. The first game of the weekend doubleheader is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT on Friday, January 26.
