MEQUON, Wis. – A four goal deficit in the second period was too much for the Trine University men's hockey team as they fell to their hosts from Concordia University Wisconsin by the score of 5-2. The loss ends the weekend in a split with the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) opponent.
The Falcons scored the lone goal of the first period and took a 1-0 lead into the intermission. Then in the first four minutes of the second period the home team went on a devastating run. They would score three goals during the stretch building the lead to 4-0.
Finally, in the 13th minute of the period the Thunder got on the board. After a fast break took the team into the offensive zone, the puck ended up in the far corner where sophomore Bobby Price was able to escape around the back of the net. He made a pass to the point where junior Jackson Clark moved in toward the net. When he reached the area between the faceoff circles he made a quick pass to his left where freshman Sam Antenucci was waiting to fire a shot into the back of the net.
The goal was the final tally of the second and the score would stay 4-1 for the beginning of the third period.
In the third minute of the final period, Trine cut into the lead again. Senior Brendan Prappas won an offensive zone faceoff back to the boards. From that position Clark fired a shot toward the net, missing the goalie and getting the score.
Still trailing 4-2 late in the contest, the Thunder pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. The move didn't work and they gave up an empty-net goal to Concordia Wisconsin with the 5-2 score going final.
The Thunder fall to 3-3-0 overall and 1-3-0 in NCHA play following the loss. They will return home to host Adrian College in their next contest of the season. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 18 in Thunder Ice Arena.
