DULUTH, Minn. – A pair of Trine University men's hockey team student-athletes have earned end of season honors from the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA), the conference has announced. Fifth-year senior Garrett Hallford has been named to the NCHA All-Conference Team while Kyle Kozma was named to the All-Freshman Team.
Hallford becomes just the third player in program history to earn a spot on the All-Conference list. The forward concludes his career at Trine as the premier offensive player, owning every career point record for the program. He sets the new program record with 18 goals this season. Overall, he finishes with 31 points, second most to his 32 in the 2021-22 season.
During the conference season Hallford posted 23 points including 11 goals and 12 assists. He was top-ten in both goals and points during conference play. His best game of the season came in the second game of a crucial NCHA sweep of Lake Forest College. He recorded five points in the game including a goal and four assists in the game that helped secure the four-seed for the team. Both the assist and point tallies set new single-game program records.
Kozma becomes the fourth member of the All-Freshman in Trine Hockey history. He solidified himself as the starting goalie for the Thunder over the final stretch of games. He finished the season with a 2.17 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage, both near or at the top of the team stats boards.
Kozma did his best work against conference opponents. In those games he led competition in both saver percentage (.929) and goals-against average (1.77). He allowed one or less goals in the four final games of the regular season while posting two of his three shutouts.
The Thunder finished the season 18-9-1 overall having finished the NCHA regular season with a 12-6 record to finish fourth. They reached their second straight, and third in four years, Harris Cup Playoffs semifinals.
