FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Trine University men's hockey standout Garrett Hallford has signed a professional contract with the Fayetteville Marksmen of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL).
Hallford returned to the team this season for a fifth year and added to an already impressive resume. He leaves the Thunder as the best offensive hockey player in the program's history. He ended his career with 122 points including 57 goals and 65 assists coming on 345 shots on goal during 120 games. Each of those stats represents a program record.
He saved his two best seasons for the last. In 2021-22, he recorded 32 points on ten goals and 22 assists setting single-season marks for both assists and points. This season he posted 31 points on 18 goals and 13 assists, setting the single-season record for goals.
Hallford has recorded four of the six hat tricks in Trine's history. In a game this season against Lake Forest College, he recorded five points on a goal and four assists, new records for both points and assists in a game.
The SPHL is an independent professional hockey league based out of Huntersville, N.C. The league is primarily based in the southeastern United States but stretches into Illinois and Indiana. The Marksmen currently hold a record of 18-19-8-0 for 44 points in the league table, where they currently sit in eighth. They are scheduled to take the ice tonight, Friday, March 10 at 8 p.m. ET against the second-place Birmingham Bulls.
