ADRIAN, Mich. - In their first tournament of the spring, the Trine University women’s golf team finished fourth at the Adrian Gear Up Spring Invite on April 7. The Thunder finished the day shooting a team score of 405.
Played at the par-72, 5,800 yard Lenawee Country Club, Hope College took the team title with a score of 349. Individually, Hope also took home medalist honors as Emily Atsma shot a round of 84.
Trine finished 18 strokes behind third place Alma College, and six shots ahead of fifth place Rochester College.
Leading the way for the Thunder was junior Allie Buttery (Clarkston, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) who finished her round with a 97 to tie for 14th. Another junior, Lauren Burns (Seville, Ohio/Cloverleaf), finished one stroke behind firing a score of 98 for the day to finish in a tie for 16th. Sophomore Jennifer Sir Louis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead) finished in a tie for 23rd carded a round of 102. Standing alone in 27th was freshman Erika Milam (Roann, Ind./Manchester) shooting a round of 108. Rounding out the team scoring for Trine in a tie for 28th was freshman Laura Carey (Jonesboro, Ind./Madison Grant) who finished the day with a score of 109.
Playing as individual for the Thunder and shooting a round of 101 was freshman Alex Ziaya (Flushing, Mich./Flushing Senior). Also playing as an individual was fellow freshman Stephanie Carson (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East) who carded a 109 for the tournament.
Trine will compete again on April 14 as they travel to the Manchester Spring Invitational.
