NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Trine University men's track and field team has been nationally ranked in week two of the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Rating Index.
The Thunder find themselves 25th in the country following performances at three different events last weekend. At Western Kentucky, Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] won the 110-meter hurdle and 400-meter hurdle events and the 4x100 meter relay team of Josh Davis [Sterling Heights, Mich. / Sterling Heights], William Thonn [Rochester, Ind. / Rochester], Ben Williams [Farmington Hills, Mich. / Harrison] and Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru] was also victorious.
Spohn also tied for second in the high jump at the event while Joseph Packard [Kokomo, Ind. / Western] was the best Trine finisher at the WASHU Distance Carnival on Friday night.
A variety of field athletes were in action at Taylor. Theodore Samra [Lansing, Mich. / DeWitt] and Eirik Eggen [Brownsburg, Ind. / Brownsburg] were the high-scoring Thunder athletes in two events each. Samra was fourth in the hammer throw and fifth in the shot put while Eggen brought home a fifth-place finish in the javelin and triple jump.
The Thunder also saw Garret Kelley [Fremont, Ind. / Fremont] notch a fourth-place finish in the high jump, Travis Dowling [Swayzee, Ind. / Oak Hill] secure a fifth-place throw in the discus and Gage Eicher [Edon, Ohio / Edon] a seventh-place mark in the long jump.
This weekend's schedule has been cancelled due to the weather forecast, so the next event for the team will be on Monday, April 11 when Trine goes to Indiana Tech when Circle Logistics Presents "The Monday Meet."
