FREELAND, Mich. – Junior Jake Gladieux [Oregon, Ohio / Whitmer] and freshman Ethan Spahr [Osseo, Mich. / Pittsford] were named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Athletes of the Week for their individual performances at last week's MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Thunder men had a dominant performance and cruised to their fifth consecutive track and field title on Friday at Albion College.
Gladieux was tabbed MIAA Track Athlete of the Week after competing in three events at the championships. He was the champion in both the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles and placed fourth in the 4x400-meter relay. Gladieux secured a time of 14.63 seconds in the 110s and ran a 53.47-second 400. Gladieux joined the 4x400-meter relay team with Evan Selby [Lake Villa, Ill. / Lake Villa], Greysen Spohn [Peru, Ind. / Peru] and Aaron Pike [New Richmond, Ohio / New Richmond] to a time of 3:24.51.
The MIAA named Spahr Field Athlete of the Week following scores in four separate events at the MIAA Outdoor Championships. He was third in the long jump with a career-best 6.89 meters (22' 7.25") and was also third in the high jump at 1.83 meters (6' 0.00"). In the triple jump, Spahr was fourth with a leap of 13.06 meters (42' 10.25"). The freshman also nabbed points in the javelin with a toss of 42.31 meters (138' 10").
This week, the Thunder will take part in a variety of events as last opportunities to qualify for nationals.
