HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – A pair of underclassmen in sophomore Mackenzie Miller and freshman Emma Forker were named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Track and Field Athletes of the Week after competing at the Indiana Tech Strive for Greatness Invitational last weekend.
Miller was in action in two sprint events to claim her first career MIAA Track Athlete of the Week award. The sophomore from Paw Paw, Michigan placed fifth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.01 seconds and was 13th in the 200-meter dash at 27.32 seconds. Already in her young Trine tenure, she is just one-tenth of a second away from the school record in the 60-meter event. She improved her time in the preliminary (8.10 seconds), semifinal (8.06 seconds) and final (8.01 seconds) rounds of competition.
In her first collegiate meet, the freshman from Avilla, Indiana recorded a score of 5.54 meters (18' 2.25") in the long jump. She had the best finish out of Thunder athletes in the event and is one foot off of the school record. Forker cleared the distance on her second and fourth attempts out of six.
The duo, along with the rest of the Trine University women's track and field team, will race at home for the first time in their next event on Saturday, January 14. The Sean Brady Alumni Invitational will take place inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC) beginning at 12 p.m.
