ANGOLA, IND. -- The Trine University women's indoor track & field team made its 2021 debut with a first place effort in its first home meet of the season in Angola, Ind.
The Thunder captured the team title with a total of 164.5 points. Albion (Mich.) College placed second with 113 points and Adrian (Mich.) College rounded out the top three with 88.5 points.
Highlighting the night was freshman Andrea Rodeheffer (Minster, Ohio/Fort Loramie) who set a school indoor record in the pole vault, and also won the event, with a height of 10' 6.00". Her mark was two inches higher than the previous record that was held by teammate Autumn Presley who finished second behind Rodeheffer at 9' 6.25". Presley set the previous record last January of 10' 4.00".
Freshman Haley Livingston (Forth Worth, Texas/Everman) had a big night both in the field events and on the track as she captured a pair of events in the long jump and triple jump. In the long jump, she was one of three Trine competitors to place in the top-five, but it was Livingston who recorded a winning leap of 16' 3.25". She then went on to win the triple jump with a best effort of 33' 6.75". On the track, she ran in the 60-meter hurdles and crossed the finish line in a time of 9.99 seconds to take third place.
Fellow freshman Kit Kirkpatrick (Bristol, Ind./Northridge) competed alongside Livingston in the long jump and placed third with a mark of 15' 8.75". She also went on to post the top overall finish for the Thunder in the high jump after clearing a height of 4' 9.75." Junior Stephanie Hartpence (Elkhart, Ind./Concord) and sophomore Lia Vawter (Franklin, Ind./Franklin) equaled Kirkpatrick's mark in the event, but Kirkpatrick was named runner-up, while Hartpence and Vawter both finished in a tie for fourth place via judge's decision.
In the weight throw, junior Anna Kmec (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) led the way for Trine by finishing second after a toss of 43' 8.50". Sophomore Madelyn Summers (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) also recorded a top-three distance of 43' 6.00" to place third overall. Additionally, Summers competed in the shot put event and finished second after a best throw of 38' 9.75".
Trine won a total of three events on the track that included Hartpence in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:05.33. Junior Paige McGonigal (Coventry Twp., Ohio/Coventry) finished in second place behind Hartpence in the same event with a time of 1:07.37.
Freshman Marissa Kenney (South Bend, Ind./J.W. Riley) and senior Megan Theismann (Ossian, Ind./Norwell) also won their individual events with Kenney taking first in the 800-meter run following a time of 2:37.04 and Theismann ran a time of 10:31.87 in the 3000-meter run to take top honors.
Freshman Kylie Zumbrun (Albion, Ind./Central Noble) had a top-three time in the 800m of 2:43.06 and senior Elizabeth Lohman (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) finished third in the 3000m with a time of 10:48.68.
Freshman Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) recorded a pair of top-three finishes highlighted by a third-place showing in the 60-meter dash of 8.15 seconds. She was then one of three Trine runners to placce in the top-10 in the 200-meter dash and was second overall after running a time of 27.87 seconds.
Ana Parker (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) completed the list of the top performances for the women with a second-place finish in the mile run and had a mark of 5:58.33.
Trine is scheduled to host another home meet on Saturday, Feb. 13. The start time for the meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
