WINONA LAKE, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field program was in action Friday at the Lancer Invitational hosted by Grace College. This is the final meet before the conference championships next week.
Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] highlighted the afternoon with a pair of event wins and a new school record. She set a new high mark in the discus at 44.10 meters (144' 8.00") and broke the school record previously held by Amanda Hagar. She also won the hammer throw at 57.26 meters (187' 10.00").
Other top finishes in field events included Andrea Rodeheffer [Minster, Ohio / Fort Loramie] with a win in the pole vault (2.95 meters / 9' 8.00") and second-place finishes by Madelyn Summers [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] in the shot put (11.89 meters / 39' 0.25") and Katie Berlew [Fremont, Ind. / Fremont] in the javelin (32.51 meters / 106' 8.00").
Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] was the best-finishing Thunder student-athlete in three events. She won the long jump (5.56 meters / 18' 3.00") and 100-meter hurdles (15.19 seconds) and placed second in the 200-meter dash (26.68 meters).
Paige McGonigal [Coventry Twp., Ohio / Coventry] was second in the 400-meter dash at 1:03.66 and Mallory Wood [Goshen, Ind. / Goshen] brought home a third-place finish in the shortest event of the meet, the 100-meter dash. Wood ran a time of 13.53 seconds.
The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships emanating from Albion College will be on Thursday, May 5 and Friday, May 6.
