HILLSDALE, Mich. & SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Trine University women's track and field program saw two school records go down at the University of Notre Dame in the Alex Wilson Invitational and field competitors in action at Hillsdale College for the Hillsdale Tune-Up.
Senior Valerie Obear [Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern] notched a school record in the weight throw and secured the best score in NCAA DIII. She was second-place in the weight throw at Notre Dame with a new personal best throw of 19.00 meters (62' 4.00").
Senior Evie Miller [Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead] posted the sixth-fastest time in NCAA DIII with a 4:45.13-mile run at Notre Dame. That is good for second-place in the event, her personal best and a new school record.
Field athletes competed in the long jump, shot put, weight throw and pole vault at Hillsdale on Saturday.
In the long jump, sophomore Haley Livingston [Fort Worth, Texas / Everman] was the event winner with a score of 5.17 meters (16' 11.5").
Junior Madelyn Summers [Kendallville, Ind. / East Noble] was on top of the board for Trine in two events: the shot put and pole vault. Summers was sixth in the shot put at 11.19 meters (36' 8.5") and 10th in the weight throw at 12.71 meters (41' 8.5"). Zharia Dodson [Gary, Ind. / Bowman Academy] and Chloe Bard [Montpelier, Ohio / Montipelier] were tied for eighth in the shot put at 10.62 meters (34' 10.25"), a career-best for both. Bard also competed in the weight throw in 14th with a score of 9.32 meters (30' 7.0").
Freshman Mallory Wood [Goshen, Ind. / Goshen] was seventh in the pole vault, reaching a height of 2.41 meters (7' 10.25").
The Trine women have completed the regular season portion of their schedule and will host the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Indoor Championships next Saturday, February 26 inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center.
