EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Trine University women's track and field team was in action on Friday afternoon in the Spartan Open, hosted by Michigan State University. The event featured teams from all levels of the NCAA as well as some NAIA institutions.
Highlighting the day for Trine was Morgan Moslow, who broke the school record in the pole vault by reaching a height of 3.20 meters (10' 6.00"). She placed 16th overall in the event. Madelyn Summers had the top mark in two field events for the Thunder after throwing a 45.25-meter (148' 8.00") hammer and an 11.36-meter (37' 3.25") shot put. The reigning Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Athlete of the Week was ninth and eleventh in those events.
Other top scores in field events included Malena Ricks, who had the best javelin throw of the day for Trine. She was sixth overall with a score of 30.28 meters (99' 4.00"). Chloe Bard was 13th in the discus after a toss of 33.69 meters (110' 6.00").
Lydia Randolph brought home an event victory to headline the track side of the event for the Thunder. Randolph was first place in the 5000-meter run with a race-winning time of 17:54.07. Amira Faulkner competed for Trine in the seeded 1500-meter race and placed 42nd at 5:05.44.
The 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Mackenzie Miller, Emma Forker, Kaleigh Maschino and Malena Ricks were third overall with a time of 50.04 seconds. Miller was also the top placer in the 100-meter dash at 12.91 seconds (13th) and 200-meter dash at 27.14 seconds (14th). In the 100-meter hurdles, Brynn Mericle had the fastest time at 16.16 seconds, good for ninth spot. The 400-meter hurdles features Adrianne Jackson with a fifth-place finish of 1:08.23 and Mericle in eighth at 1:10.60.
Anissa Rios found herself 16th in the 400-meter run at 1:05.64. Emily Wahl had the best time for the Thunder in the seeded race of the 800-meter run at 2:25.72 (23rd).
Next week, Trine remains close to home in the Warrior Open, hosted by Indiana Tech on Friday, April 7.
