HUDSONVILLE, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) has chosen Madelyn Summers of the Trine University women's track and field team as the MIAA Women's Field Athlete of the Week. It is the second time Summers has won the award this season.
The senior thrower from Kendallville, Indiana competed in the shot put and weight throw for the Thunder at the Hillsdale Tune-Up last Saturday. She notched a new personal best in the shot put at 12.33 meters (40' 5.50") and finished fourth overall at the meet, however she was first of NCAA DIII student-athletes. Summers is second in the conference in the shot put.
In the weight throw, she was sixth with a best throw of 13.78 meters (45' 2.50"). Summers is third in the MIAA with a season-best toss of 14.02 meters (46' 0.00").
On Saturday, February 25, the Thunder host the MIAA Indoor Championships at home inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center (ARC). Events begin at 11 a.m.
