FREELAND, MICH. -- Trine University freshman indoor track runner Haley Livingston (Fort Worth, Texas/Everman) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
As a team, the Thunder captured its second meet title of the season by winning the Women's MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine this past weekend.
Livingston posted a school record in the long jump with a winning mark of 16' 8.50". She improved upon the all-time mark set by Miranda Iles in January of 2010 of 16" 7.00". In addition to Livingston, fellow freshman Kennedi Sternberg (Kouts, Ind./Kouts) competed and finished second after a leap of 16" 6.50".
Livingston's day didn't stop with her record-setting effort in the long jump, she also went on to win the triple jump with a mark of 32' 3.75" and then competed on the track and grabbed first place in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a time of 9.62 seconds.
Her mark in the long jump was the best in the conference so far this year and her time in the 60m hurdles ranks as the second quickest to date.
Trine is set to host its final meet of the season next Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center. The day is scheduled to begin at noon.
