FREELAND, MICH. -- Trine University's Valerie Obear (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) has been named this week's Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Field "Athlete of the Week" for her individual efforts this past weekend.
Obear helped the Thunder women's outdoor track and field team place second at the Tiger Triangular hosted by Wittenberg (Ohio) University this past Friday (Mar. 26) to start the outdoor season.
Individually, Obear won two field events in the discus and the shot put. In the discus, Obear posted a best throw of 135' 4.00" which was nearly 20 feet farther then her nearest opponent. In the shot put, Obear had a winning toss of 40' 11.75" to finish a little over seven inches ahead of second place.
Trine is next scheduled to compete in the Olivet College Invitational on Friday, Apr. 2 in Olivet, Mich.
